Pingjiang Road is a canal-side historic district whose layout dates back to the Song Dynasty (960-1279), making it one of the best-preserved areas of Suzhou’s old city. Stone-paved streets, arched bridges and narrow waterways form a layered urban landscape, lined with traditional homes, cultural spaces, bookstores and teahouses. It is an ideal place for slow exploration -- glide along Suzhou’s canals to the sound of folk songs, savor Pingtan storytelling in a historic teahouse, and wander streets filled with craft shops and independent bookstores.
