Suzhou Museum is itself a work of art. Opened in 2006 and designed by the legendary architect I M Pei as his final masterpiece, the new building seamlessly fuses modern design with the elegance of traditional Suzhou gardens. White walls, gray trim, geometric glass roofs, and steel structures frame a central water feature and rockeries, creating spaces where light and shadow play poetically.
Inside, the museum houses a rich array of treasures—from excavated artifacts and Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasty paintings to exquisite Suzhou handicrafts. Permanent exhibitions such as “Wu Treasures” and “Wu Pagodas” offer a journey through Suzhou’s history from prehistoric times to the modern era.
