Suzhou is often called the “City of Gardens” as it is home to the most concentrated and best-preserved collection of classical Chinese gardens in the country. Nine of them are inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Suzhou gardens are renowned for “creating vast landscapes within limited space”, through techniques such as borrowed scenery, framed views and visual layering.
Landmark gardens such as the Humble Administrator’s Garden, Lingering Garden, Lion Grove Garden and the Master of the Nets Garden each offer a distinct experience—ranging from expansive water landscapes to intricate rockeries and intimate nighttime views—together forming a vital textbook of Chinese garden art.
