The Yellow River
The Yellow River, often called the “Mother River of China”, is the country’s second-longest river and one of the longest rivers in the world, with an estimated length of 5,464 kilometers. Originating from the Bayan Har Mountains in Qinghai province, it flows eastward through nine provinces and autonomous regions—Qinghai, Sichuan, Gansu, Ningxia, Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Henan and Shandong—before emptying into the Bohai Sea. The river course is dotted with renowned scenic areas including the Baotu Spring, Ming Dynasty Ancient City in Qufu, and Mount Tai, all located in Shandong province. Known for its distinctive yellow color from loess sediment, it has nurtured Chinese civilization for thousands of years. This special feature allows you to explore the river’s breathtaking landscapes, ancient cultural sites, ecological protection, and historical relics.
