Dunhuang International Artist-in-Residence 2026 opens for spring
Updated: Mar 12, 2026 China Bound

Staging Silk Road Dunhuang International Artist-in-Residence (SSR AIR) has officially launched the session of its spring residence in 2026. This season, 28 artists from around the world have gathered in Dunhuang to create and exchange ideas within this unique cultural environment.

During the residence, contemporary art media will interact with the artists' personal experiences and reflections in Dunhuang. Their creative explorations resonate with the city's long history as a crossroads of civilizations — a place where multiple languages, beliefs, and traditions once coexisted and flourished along the Silk Road.

The program is jointly organized by Staging Silk Road, Dunhuang Contemporary Art Museum, and KUNLUN by China Daily, with special support from Jangala Dunhuang and the Dunhuang Culture & Tourism Group.

If you plan to visit the Dunhuang Contemporary Art Museum in Shanghai, don't miss the large exhibition currently on view — Ta: Higher Heights.
