Rising like a colossal pyramid from the edge of Dunhuang, Mingsha Mountain is a natural symphony in motion. This majestic sea of sand stretches over 40 km east to west, with dunes soaring up to 600 meters. But its true magic lies not only in its steep slopes, razor-sharp ridges and sands that flow in five distinct colors, but also in its legendary voice. When you slide down its slopes, the dunes seem to sing in a deep, resonant hum like distant drums and horns, caused by quartz-rich sand grains rubbing together and resounding in harmony with the wind-sculpted terrain.
Nestled at the foot of this vast desert lies the tranquil Crescent Spring. For centuries, this oasis has defied the encroaching sands. Ironback fish swim beneath the surface, grass sways along its banks, and the moon is reflected on its mirror-like pool, creating the poetic scene known as "Moonlit Spring at Dawn". Together, the singing dunes and the timeless spring form one of the world's most mesmerizing desert landscapes.
