Dunhuang Yardang National Geopark, located along the border of Gansu and Xinjiang, is a spectacular landscape sculpted by wind erosion over 300,000-700,000 years. Rising from the Gobi desert, colossal yardang (wind-eroded ridges) formations take on vivid shapes resembling peacocks, eagles, yurts, and even a vast stone fleet – grand in scale, rich in form, and astonishingly lifelike. Renowned as a geological marvel and a photographer's paradise, the park has become a favored filming location for movies and commercials.
Beyond simply admiring the scenery, visitors can explore the landscape through thrilling experiences such as off-road drives, dune buggies, go-karts, and electric sightseeing vehicles, gaining a dynamic perspective of the vast Gobi desert scenery. Educational hands-on programs add depth to the visit, from learning desert survival skills such as finding water, to creative activities like sculpting yardang or painting "yardang hats". It's a destination where raw nature, adventure, and hands-on discovery come together.
