Updated: 2026-07-18 | China Bound

Nestled among the mountains of Lhokha in the Xizang autonomous region, Yamzhog Yumco Lake, also spelled Yardrok Yutso, is one of Xizang's three sacred lakes. Its name means "the jade-colored lake on the upper pasture", and its crystal-clear blue waters, framed by rolling peaks and golden grasslands, create a truly breathtaking panorama.

According to Tibetan legend, the lake was formed when a heavenly goddess descended to Earth, making it a place of profound spiritual significance. To this day, pilgrims and local residents walk around the lake to pray for blessings. Beyond its unforgettable scenery, Yamzhog Yumco also serves as a habitat for highland birds, adding vibrant wildlife to its serene and sacred landscape.
